4Solid monocular, waterproof to boot
By J. Lee
Pros: waterproof, affordable, good optics
Cons: a little blockier and larger than the 7X18 (as expected)

I had another version of the Brunton (7X18) until it suffered an unexpected and fatal dunk in the river. Chastened by the experience, I sought a waterproof monocular, and this proved to be the best combination of price and compact size. I got it for around $20 shipped at another vendor(with vowels removed, Opt-csPl-n-t). It's a good performer overall.

4Good Value for the Money
By TopDog
This is an inexpensive economy level item but a good value for the price paid. You are not going to buy a high quality monocular at this price point of less than $20.00. Even though this is a low end device it does have its use's.

Know the features and specifications.

This is a rugged waterproof device that should not fog up (mine hasn't), that will serve well outdoors.

The magnification level is 8X. Not a great deal of magnification but if you go up to 10x or more it becomes more difficult to steady the image.

The Objective lens is 22mm which is small. Rule of thumb the larger the objective lens the more light it captures the clearer and brighter the image. Many have said on lower to mid end monoculars 40mm is the smallest they use for a bright clear image. This device will be of little use in less than daylight.

From my experience I would estimate close focus to be around 20 feet.

It uses BK4 prisms which are just adequate, BK7 would have been better. But for what you are paying for these, you can not expect the best optics. They are multi coated lens, so that helps.

To give you an idea of what you can do with these. I can stand on my porch and read the house numbers on the house across the street and five houses down.

Just don't be expecting to spot small birds at 200 yards with these.

5Little price, little scope, BIG VALUE
By ianarno
For a COMPACT 8x22 pocket scope, this Brunton delivers. It is smaller than I thought it would be, which is a positive for me as it is primarily a backpacking tool for me. Focusing is easy, the eight power is ideal, glass is clear, and I don't know what the complaints are about a lack of picking up light. It picks up light the same way I see the images from my own eyes so I am quite happy with it.
